Heat Stress Solutions at the World Cup

TECHNICHE INTERNATIONAL COOLING VESTS AT THE WORLD CUP IN BRAZIL

Beat the Heat Options

As we get closer to the World Cup in Brazil, more and more attention is going to the heat in Brazil, and how it might impact the players.  As we watch this trend, the impending heat in Brazil, and help our customers (the Dutchmen, the Belgians, the English, and many other professional athletes), prepare themselves using our unique cooling solutions, we cannot help but be drawn into a discussion about alternative solutions.

It seems that there are two primary options that teams and their doctors are looking at, 1. solutions provided by TechNiche, such as our unique KewlFitTM Vest, Hybrid Vest or HyperKewlTM products, and 2. ice vests with a new wrapping.  Twenty years ago ice vests and ice baths were a mainstay in the locker rooms, but the science of pre-cooling and post cooling has advanced since the days of the ice vest.  Dr. Stacy Sims, Exercise Physiologist at Stanford University, had this to say about ice cooling versus cooling at 58'F/14C, such as provided by TechNiche products,

“58-61'F is a gradient aspect, not an absolute temperature. When you get too cold (i.e. 44'F or colder) it will instigate a vasoconstriction response- shunting blood away from the skin back to the core. If you get too warm (65'F plus) there is diminished returns on the amount of heat released/pulled away from the body- know that the skin temperature takes on more of the ambient temperature/reflects more of the ambient temperature.. 58-61'F has been shown to maximize the gradient to reduce heat storage without invoking any vasoconstriction response.”

Basically, Dr. Sims is saying that ice vests, such as the one being provided by Adidas and their pre-cooling vest, are too cold and can cause the veins to dilate, which can prohibit good blood flow to the extremities.

For more details on what Dr. Sims has to say about pre-cooling go to the below link.

If we take the key elements of the two main cooling options for Brazil 2014 being discussed, we get the below comparison.

While you can make nearly anything look good with the right packaging and marketing, a point by point comparison of the available data creates a very different picture as to the right cooling solution for athletes wanting to pre-cool and post cool during competitions.  Ignore the names, look at the point by point comparison, and make your choice.

Team doctors of many professional athletes have chosen TechNiche International as their pre-cooling and post-cooling solutions provider.  TechNiche International has been chosen, not because of our brand recognition, nor our marketing capabilities, but because TechNiche International provided the best personal cooling solutions, as we have been doing for over a decade.

The Belgian Red Devils Beat the Heat in Brazil

TECHNICHE COOLING VESTS AT THE WORLD CUP IN BRAZIL

A New Tool for the Belgians

This summer, everyone will be watching their nation's teams as they compete for the World Cup in Brazil. Marc Wilmots, the Head Coach of the Belgian Red Devils Men's National Football Team, will take every weapon available to him to create a competitive edge for his players. Included in his arsenal is the unique KewlFitTM Cooling Vest by TechNiche International, and their line of HyperKewlTM products. As Marc Wilmots' team battles through the grueling competition and heat of Brazil, they will not have to battle heat fatigue. Players such as Eden Hazard, Kevin Mirallas and Daniel van Buyten will be able to compete at peak performance levels. The performance of athletes declines as their body temperature increases. In Brazil, especially during the upcoming World Cup, temperatures will be high, making it difficult for the players to play at their best. Proper pre-cooling with a KewlFitTM Cooling Vest can help the athlete maintain a comfortable core temperature and avoid heat fatigue before the start of the competition, during warm up. Our HyperKewlTM Evaporative Cooling KewlShirtTM can help keep the athlete cool during play. Finally, our KewlFitTM Cooling Vest will help the athlete to recovery more quickly as it helps to cool them down, a crucial advantage during a long tournament. Understanding the advantages of pre-cooling, cooling during the competition, and post-cooling, the players of the Belgian National Team have chosen KewlFitTM and KewlShirtTM by TechNiche International as their weapon of choice for Brazil 2014. We look forward to seeing players such Eden Hazard, Kevin Mirallas and Daniel van Buyten utilizing this new tool to compete at optimal performance levels. Performance Improvement Rates Effective cooling can be the difference between winning and losing a game and a tournament. As determined by Dr. Eijsvogels of the Physiology Department at Radboud University Medical Center, " Athletes who used cooling products performed an average of 6.7% better than those that did not. Remember that in sports the difference between the first and fourth place is marginal. So improving your performance by nearly 7%, thanks to proper cooling techniques, can have a big impact on the final result." The doctors and physios of the Belgian Red Devils Team feel the same way and have determined that the KewlFit Cooling Vest and KewlShirt by TechNiche International will give them this advantage. Product Details TechNiche International's KewlFitTM Cooling Vest uses phase change material to keep the user at a cool 58F (14C) for two to three hours. This comfortable cool temperature can help the user to maintain a lower more comfortable core temperature before the start of play. This is an ideal tool for both event pre-cooling and post event cooling. The KewlShirtTM uses TechNiche International's HyperKewlTM fabric to help the user stay cool through the evaporation of water contained within the HyperKewl fabric. KewlShirtTM is light weight and effective for cooling while competing. For more details go to www.techniche-intl.com. TechNiche International is a manufacturer of cooling vests and accessories for athletes, workers and anyone battling the heat. For more information go to www.techniche-intl.com.
